Language Acquisition through Motor Planning
What is LAMP?
Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) is a therapeutic approach based on neurological and motor learning principals. The goal is for individuals who are nonverbal or have limited verbal communication to be able to communicate with the world around them using a robust communication system. Everyone has the right to say what they want to say, when they want to say it! The LAMP methodology helps teach individuals to use an Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) device. AAC is anything that is not verbal speech: gestures, Sign Language, writing, or drawing to express what they want to communicate. The LAMP method accepts all forms of communication with a focus on teaching how to use a speech generating device through sensory rich activities. Though there is a LAMP app that is a robust communication system the LAMP method can be paired with any AAC device that the individual may already be using.
Services
Shelley offers LAMP services through individual sessions. She primarily uses Music Therapy to help teach skills but can also use an individuals most motivating activities to help them learn to communicate. Shelley offers individual sessions with parent consultation as a package. It is important that parents are modeling the device at home and in the community to establish that the device can be used in all areas of the individuals life. Shelley enjoys working with families making the LAMP principals easy to understand and easy to implement.
